EXPERIENCE
As a former Summer Legal Associate at the Hispanic Information &
Telecommunications Network (HITN), Rafael A. Escalante, an Attorney at Law, had
the unique opportunity of learning the art of communication, Negotiations,
Drafting, and he was able to utilized his bilingual skills (Spanish and English
), conversing in his native Spanish tongue. After graduating from Syracuse Law
School in 2000, he was admitted to practice before the Courts of New York State,
as well as being admitted to the District Court of Puerto Rico. During that
period, he was also offered the opportunity to work at the largest Intellectual
Property law firm in the United States where he honed his skills as a skillful
researcher and drafter.
In 2003, he was offered an opportunity to return to Puerto Rico as a Federal
Attorney, representing the legal interest of the Department of Justice in the
District Court of Puerto Rico and the United States’ Virgin Islands. As the
Senior Attorney assigned to the Chapter 12 and 13 Trustee, Attorney Escalante
litigated and resolved over 2000 cases and held over 4000 meetings of Creditors.
Consequently, he was afforded the opportunity to conduct interrogatories and
depositions in Spanish but litigate in English. After attaining Senior Attorney
status, he completed his task as the Senior Attorney at the Trustee’s Office and
returned to New York City where he opened his own law practice. As a bilingual
Attorney dually admitted in New York and the District Court of Puerto Rico, he
traveled extensively between the two jurisdictions in order to work zealously
for his clients.
